Before 91视频传媒, I was a mess. I had no set schedule, no direction, no ambition, and I was steeped in depression. My family had stopped asking me what I was doing or where I was going. I stopped asking myself.

One day my mother was looking into 91视频传媒 for herself, but she was unsure. It had been too long in her mind since she was last in school, and she was afraid. So I told her, “If you go, I’ll go.” I said that I’d get off my asterisk and do something with my life if she did something with hers. A few months later, she was taking classes, and so was I.

91视频传媒 is a wonderful place. The staff is friendly, and the teachers are helpful, but I felt like I didn’t belong. I’ve been struggling with depression for years and coming to school here was just a whim.

Then something clicked. Something within me changed after coming to 91视频传媒. And while I still feel that depression, I’m doing well. I’m happy. I love this field [Computer Technician Networking Specialist], and I’m looking forward again.

I’m in the CTNS program at 91视频传媒, and I’m almost done. I’m at the top of my class. I can’t wait to get out into the field and move forward. I plan on taking the A+ exam and eventually work my way up the Cisco line.

91视频传媒 is helping me pursue my dream, and they’ll help you too. Just get off your asterisk and sign up.

Your future boss,
Matthew

It’s Never Too Late /its-never-too-late/ Sun, 11 Mar 2018 17:43:58 +0000 /its-never-too-late/ Maria PenoroI have always been fascinated with the medical field and love the idea of being there for people during times that could be very trying.

During my early school years, I always spoke about being a nurse. As we know, sometimes things do not always go the way we anticipate.

In the start of my junior year of high school, I decided to go to school for cosmetology. Within the next two years, I graduated high school and received my New York State cosmetology license. I worked in a salon for a year after that, later moved on to manage a salon, and then decided to open up my own full service unisex salon. I enjoyed every minute of it. I guess you can say I still chose a career that helped people.

A few years later I got married, had two boys, and chose to give up my salon and work from home to be there for my boys. My children are now 19 and 21. I still had the thought of a medical career in the back of my mind, but now I felt that I was too old to go back to school. I hadn鈥檛 picked up a book in 20 years. I didn鈥檛 know if I would be able to handle the program.

My family and friends disagreed. They kept encouraging me, telling me it was never too late to follow my dreams. I visited 91视频传媒 a few times prior to signing up. I fell in love with the program the first time I went to the open house, but I still doubted my ability to return to school.

Well, I finally made the decision to do something I have wanted to do for a very long time. My family has been very supportive, especially my kids. I started the program September 5th. I am in my last month. I go out on externship the end of March. I can鈥檛 wait to enter the medical field and see what the future holds.

Since my first day at 91视频传媒, I never looked back. From day one I felt like I belonged here. The decision to follow my dreams after all these years has so far been very gratifying, and I could not have picked a better school to pursue my career. The teachers at 91视频传媒 are incredible. They go above and beyond to help you reach your potential and help you succeed.

First Challenge Was Language /first-challenge-was-language/ Sun, 04 Feb 2018 20:07:20 +0000 /first-challenge-was-language/ I have always been interested in the medical field, and I was determined to graduate from a medical assisting program. It didn鈥檛 matter how long it would take me to do or how hard it would be going back to school.

I would finally be doing what I really wanted to do, which was to become a medical assistant.

As a person who is from a foreign country, the first challenge that I had was language. My mother always encouraged me to be around English speaking people even though I couldn鈥檛 understand a word they were saying.

I was enrolled in ESL (English as a second language) classes at the same time I was working. I was in three different schools before I could get into a GED program (high school diploma equivalency program). My mother always thought that even though I was a high school graduate in my country, I had to take the GED test in English here.

By the time I was ready to enroll in a GED program in the U.S., I found out that I had to first take ESL classes as a prerequisite because I was a foreign student. It took me five years before I could start GED classes. I was one of the few students to obtain a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) within six months.

Although I had to put my studies on hold for a while, when I got married and had my daughter, I never gave up for those ten years after my first ESL class.

At 91视频传媒, where the teachers were very helpful, I was successful in becoming a medical assistant. I was proud to have graduated and plan to go even further in my education.

It doesn鈥檛 matter how your life is going or at what pace you are going. Always have in mind what you want, and work for it.

My Escape /i-love-fixing-things/ Sun, 26 Nov 2017 05:11:47 +0000 /i-love-fixing-things/ BirdMy biggest love and passion is drawing and designing. I started at a young age. It was the only thing that let me escape a lot of problems and stress. I wasn’t popular when I was young because I was foreign born, and it was hard to communicate with other people.

When I was nine years old, I won an art competition with students from different countries in Europe. I came in first at my school. My winning drawing remains in Greece today. After that, I won several other competitions.

But after that passion, I started to love fixing things鈥攁nd that includes fixing people when they get hurt. I had already studied a little health care in Europe. That’s why I chose medical assisting. I wanted to experience something different, something I was interested in and really liked.

After entering the Medical Assistant program, I decided that I would never stop trying new things.

Blood Was My Biggest Fear /blood-was-my-biggest-fear/ Mon, 25 Sep 2017 11:23:47 +0000 /blood-was-my-biggest-fear/ Athena PohAttending 91视频传媒 was the best decision I could have ever made.

I joined the Army when I was 17 and spent six years in the service. I met my husband while serving. We got married, had a baby, and I was done with the Army after six years.

I have always looked for something that was as fulfilling as serving my country and really could never find it. My friend told me about 91视频传媒 and about becoming a medical assistant. I asked her what she did and how she did it.

I checked out 91视频传媒 that night and came to the school for a tour and signed up that day.

Learning how to become a medical assistant was a great experience. I learned so much and overcame one of my biggest fears, blood. My instructor, Lisa, helped me realize that drawing someone鈥檚 blood is not hard and not painful. I struggled with it at first, and I can now even find the hard veins.

I was able to find a job while on my externship and got a great offer from North Shore Cardiology and Internal Medicine. I am doing everything we learned in school and some extra stuff, too. I have a job where I do phlebotomy every day, along with EKG and meeting and greeting patients.

I have grown so much as a medical assistant and am looking forward to the future.

I believe 91视频传媒 is the best first step to an amazing career in the health field. I know I will be able to grow to the person they taught me to be. 91视频传媒, for me, was the best first step to a career that I can be proud of.

I Was No Longer Lost /i-was-no-longer-lost/ Sun, 27 Aug 2017 03:39:29 +0000 /i-was-no-longer-lost/ I Was No Longer LostBefore coming to 91视频传媒, I was lost, no direction, no drive. I just had the na茂ve notion it would all work itself out. As far as I was concerned in my adolescence, it was some future problem where to go in life. I had this idea of my future self as a well-rounded individual who had a career, a house, a car, savings, 401(k), wife鈥ou know, “the American Dream” but with zero way of obtaining it.

After paying out-of-pocket for community college for two years and working full-time to do so, it occurred to me, 鈥淲hat am I doing here?

鈥 It was an overwhelming, cascading feeling of disappointment. I was paying for classes I had no interest in or needed; classes I was forced to take due to some outdated methodology that you HAD to take all these extra courses in order to be considered a student.

In reality, I was just a means for schools to take parents鈥 and students鈥 well earned money and line their pockets with it. But I digress.

After being stressed out for longer than I care to recount鈥攁nd panic attack after panic attack as a result鈥擨 took some time off and focused on my health. I looked for a long time for a higher learning institution where it focused more on the material I was interested in as a subject/trade/skill with hands on-training as a mainstay in the classroom over the generic college experience.

That is when I came across 91视频传媒.

My mother had mentioned it to me in passing as my aunt had attended its nursing program and has since gone on to be very happy and productive with her new career. She had mentioned they also had a business course, as well as a computer course, in which I would learn computer repair, networking, and the basics to get my foot in the door of any company looking for new techs.

I figured I had nothing to lose just checking the place out. So I did…best decision of my life thus far.

Meeting both the computer networking professors and getting a synopsis of the course, I was sold. The notion that I found a place with everything I鈥檇 been searching for was too enticing for me to pass up.

During my time enrolled, I helped network the campus; wired the nursing professors鈥 office and set up the patch panel; fixed countless laptops, desktops, several tablets; and solved printer problems with a range in difficulty. Each time I came upon a problem I was unfamiliar with, both my classmates and professor were there to give a guiding hand on how to figure it out.

That right there was by far the best experience and everything that made me come to 91视频传媒 in the first place. I felt like I was home, as strange as that sounds. I found this to be the best method for me to gain knowledge and make new friends in the process. I was no longer lost, searching for a way to get everything I wanted out of life. I had the tools now, the drive, the roadmap, if you will, on how.

All in all, I would recommend this program, nay this school, for those looking to get hands-on training and have the confidence to obtain everything they so desire out of life. All it takes is a simple 鈥測es鈥 to this teaching method and a positive attitude.

Levittown Graduation /levittowngraduation/ Mon, 07 Aug 2017 01:53:10 +0000 /levittowngraduation/ The night of July 27, Levittown had its most recent graduation ceremony in the JetBlue Sky Theater at the Cradle of Aviation Museum and Education Center in Garden City. Before entering the theater, friends and family鈥攁long with their graduate sons and daughters, siblings, children, parents and grandparents鈥攇athered in the outer area walled by its ceiling high windows as the sun began to set.

There were both tears of joy and of sadness that evening. The happiness came from the anticipation of starting a brand new life and a job our graduates will love, no longer having to give change at Burger King for a living. The letdown was that, though some former students will stay in touch with their peers, others may never relive the joy of personal and emotional interaction with their classmates that they had while at 91视频传媒.

Some graduates talked to each other and their families about the rest of their lives. Where will I be five years from now? Many of us live by the day, thinking that times will never change, that things will always be the same.

Though 91视频传媒 welcomes graduates to come back and talk to the new enrollees about their journey and experience, most will never return, no matter how powerful the encounter their life change has brought about.

All being on a different course of life, there will be no more hanging out at the school.

Graduates who had one last thing to say to their classmates said it on this night. Everyone was moving on to a new adventure, and slowing down was not an option.
The memories鈥攐h, the memories鈥攈owever will live forever. Each graduate thought about those few moments in class from the previous months that were the happiest or the most poignant or the greatest of all time.

So maybe some of these graduates will occasionally call or text each other in future, but like the ever evaporating smoke over a campfire, most will savor only nostalgia. They will remember laughing at themselves, the long nights of studying, and hope for the future, the reason for what was at times stressful.

Two points of time, both past and future, wrap around these graduates鈥 minds. Those are the fabulous times they had with their classmates, colleagues, and friends while in school and the wondrous things to come out of their education. And then there are those who will be friends forever.

Will they still remember everything they learned in school? Will these graduates still try to break the rules?

Each of our futures is in our own hands. Please remember, though, that we love when graduates come back and visit to tell us how life is going for them. Though 91视频传媒 is a business, we care. Never forget that.

Summer at 91视频传媒 /summer-at-hunter/ Fri, 28 Jul 2017 14:40:15 +0000 /summer-at-hunter/ At 91视频传媒, we make every effort to instill in our students the qualities of responsibility, honesty, and self-awareness. We try to teach them to be flexible, critical thinkers, and compassionate.

Being a career or technical school, there are no summer vacations or spring breaks as there are in public schools. So in order to give students a chance to blow off steam and pat themselves on the back at the same time, both campuses reward them with a daylong picnic.

This year the Levittown campus held its barbecue at Eisenhower Park in Westbury on July 21. The event is always held on a Friday, allowing everyone to easily slip into the weekend.

See if you can spot yourself, your friends, and your loved ones in these photos. (Continue reading below photos.)

Jim Fetter, chairperson for the Computer Technician Networking Specialist program, slaved over a hot grill in temperatures that were in the high eighties. But food did not stop at the usual barbecue fare. There were hero sandwiches, salads, snacks, and lots of soda and water to stay hydrated. Since 91视频传媒 prides itself on a diverse population, we of course could not forget our vegetarian peers.

Students were allowed to bring parents, children, spouses, girlfriends, and boyfriends. Even though students interact socially between classes and at lunch on regular school days, the relaxed atmosphere at the picnic lent itself to a more telling and deeper exploration of each other鈥檚 lives through free and easy conversation. Being able to wear normal summertime, casual clothing also made everyone more easygoing and conversational.

Someone brought her dog, and each kid who came with a parent was cuter than the next. People tend to sit with their classmates each year, but an equal number of students roam and mingle with others. 91视频传媒 is purposely a small school so students may be afforded more individual attention and more easily make connections with other students. This not only helps with networking for future career goals but also enhances social skills that are necessary at every stage and level of life.

I, myself, made a new connection.

One of my students invited her firefighter boyfriend to the picnic. Knowledge of fires, how they start, and how to handle them are part of the Medical Assistant curriculum. I arranged for him to come to the school in the near future to instruct our students.

The picnic is not the only fun thing we do at 91视频传媒 during the year. But there鈥檚 nothing like being outdoors in the sunshine for no other purpose than to enjoy one鈥檚 self, be with other people, children, and the occasional dog.

There Was Just Something Missing /there-was-just-something-missing/ Tue, 18 Jul 2017 05:11:50 +0000 /there-was-just-something-missing/ I鈥檝e been dancing since I was a little girl. As I got older, I became more involved in the competition world of dance. I competed in groups, both duos and solos. Dance became a big part of my life. It was my escape from everything else, and it was my go-to when I was stressed, struggling through something, or needed a release. But it was even my go-to when there were positive things going on in life, too.

I went to school for dance and then became a dance teacher, which I still am. I love teaching dance and inspiring kids to do what they want to do in the dance world. I love watching them grow and set these goals for themselves that they work so hard at achieving.

There was just something missing. I never had a desire to open my own studio and make my own business out of it. I found I was always hands-on when someone was hurt and, then, someone said to me that I should get into the medical field. I looked more into it and decided starting off as a medical assistant would be best to make sure this was what I wanted.

I couldn鈥檛 be happier with the choice I made. Still, to this day, studying in the medical field I found that I want to not only stay in it but want to advance myself down the road. 91视频传媒 has really showed me that the medical field was that missing link in my life. The teachers have been truly wonderful and so helpful while I conquer my dreams.

I am so thankful for each teacher and the positive impact they鈥檝e made during my journey. As I continue to go to school, I am also able to still teach dance at night and enjoy both worlds that I love.
