Steps to Be Considered for Acceptance

Please note that meeting the minimum requirements described below鈥攊ncluding conducting an interview with the program chairperson鈥攄oes not guarantee acceptance into the Hybrid Diagnostic Medical Sonography diploma program. Due to limited capacity, only a select number of students can be accepted.

Candidates can apply only once for admission to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.

We suggest all DMS applicants spend at least one day of observation in an ultrasound (sonography) department at a local hospital or other clinical facility shadowing a sonographer for the purpose of learning about the field聽and the day-to-day responsibilities of a sonographer.

All components of the approval process are considered in making the decision to accept a Hybrid Diagnostic Medical Sonography student. The ability to identify student applicants who have strong critical thinking skills and the desire to apply those skills is an essential component in the decision making process. For additional admission criteria, please see the Admissions section in the school catalog.

Students applying for admission to the Hybrid Diagnostic Medical Sonography program must complete and submit these items.

  • 91视频传媒 Information Sheet, provided by the Admissions department
  • Interview with the Admissions department and Hybrid Diagnostic Medical Sonography chairperson and faculty
  • Official copy of high school diploma or transcript, Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC鈩�), General Equivalency Diploma,聽 (GED庐), or equivalent, and if foreign, must be accompanied by an official, verified equivalent
  • Official copy of transcript from an accredited college or university documenting a minimum of an associate degree or higher or the equivalent number of at least 60 credits
    • Transcript must include grade of 鈥淐鈥� or better for the following college level, credit bearing courses: English/communication skills; algebra, higher level math (from a math department only), or statistics (from a psychology department only); human anatomy and physiology (from a biology department only); and physics (from a physics department only).

  • Official copy of any or all transcripts from each institution previously attended
    • Failure to submit transcripts from all institutions previously attended, regardless of status upon leaving those institutions, may result in denial.
  • Medical exam, background check, and negative drug screenings
  • Essay
    • Admissions department to supply essay topic
    • Must be well-constructed, typed, two pages
  • Three original copies of signed recommendation forms completed by a professional, such as an employer, colleague, educator, or medical professional
    • It is recommended that you have two from a past or current employer and one from a college professor or mentor.
    • All forms should be given to the Admissions department at the interview and must include contact information for the individual providing the reference.
  • Career Observation Verification Form
    • This verifies that you have spent a day of observation at an ultrasound (sonography) department.
    • It is not mandatory for admission to the program, but highly recommended.
  • Commitment to travel costs to clinical sites in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan

COVID-19

Effective with classes starting after January 1, 2025, COVID vaccinations are not required. Please be aware that this requirement may change at any time prior to or after a student starts school.

Upon Acceptance Into the Program

After being accepted to the program,聽but before student orientation, the following requirements must be met.

Do not incur any of the costs below unless you have confirmation that you have been accepted into the program.

  • Physical examination by a New York State licensed medical practitioner and proof of immunizations by titer and seasonal influenza
    • You can obtain all appropriate health forms聽from the Admissions department.
    • These must be presented prior to student orientation. The drug screening must show negative results.
    • Marijuana is among the drugs tested. If you test positive for marijuana (cannabis), you must provide a prescription from a New York State licensed practitioner who can prescribe controlled substances and is qualified to treat the patient’s condition. Otherwise, you will be at risk of losing your seat.
    • All costs related to the physical exam, immunizations, vaccine, background check, and drug screening are the sole responsibility of the applicant and cannot be reimbursed by the school.
  • Basic background check
    • Official proof of the background check must be submitted prior to student orientation.
    • The cost of the authorized background check is the sole responsibility of the applicant and will not be reimbursed by the school. Therefore, it is advised that you do not incur the expense for the background check or drug screening unless you have been formally accepted into the program.
    • A Basic Background Check must be completed by DISA Healthcare Technology, a company we have partnered with. Go to聽聽and order your background check online by entering package code HS15bg (for background check聽and聽drug screening, use HS15bgdt) in the upper right corner of the screen.
    • The background check and drug screening must be done through DISA Healthcare Technology, and the drug screening results must all be negative.
    • Follow the instructions on the handout provided by the Admissions department.
  • Drug screenings other than those mentioned above may be required, as needed, depending upon the policies of the clinical site to which a student is assigned
    • Drug screenings can be completed through聽聽by following the same procedures for your background check as outlined on the handout provided by the Admissions department. Enter package code HS15dt.

COVID-19

Legal Considerations

If you have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, you must contact聽聽(301.738.8401) for a pre-application review of eligibility.

Student Orientation

It is mandatory that all applicants who have been accepted into the Hybrid Diagnostic Medical Sonography diploma program attend student orientation. Date and time will be provided.

Failure to submit required documents within the timeframe required or attend orientation may result in forfeiture of your seat.
